About the Programme

This programme is a two (2) years non-degree programme leading to the award of Diploma in Computer Science. The academic year is organized in two (2) semesters each of fifteen (15) instruction weeks followed by two (2) examinations weeks. The programme is made of a number of courses from the following areas: Communication skills, Mathematics, computer programming, Data and information management, systems and architecture, profession and ethics, software design and development, and computer networks.

Entry Requirements

Category A:  Direct Entry

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E.) or equivalent with passes in at least four approved subjects including Mathematics, and one of the following combinations of passes in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or equivalent: 

(i) Three Subsidiary passes in Computer Science, Advanced Mathematics, Basic Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Commerce, Geography, Biology or Accountancy.

OR

(ii) One principal level pass at least grade ‘C’ or better in any of the subjects listed in (i) above. 

                                                                   OR

(iii) One principal level pass and a subsidiary pass in any of the subjects listed in (i) above. 

OR

(iv) A Certificate in Computer Science with an average GPA of at least 2.7 out of 5.0 from recognized institution. 

OR

(v) Any Bachelor Degree from recognized institution.

 

Category B: Equivalent Qualifications 

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E.) or equivalent with passes in at least four approved subjects and one of the following qualifications: 

(i) A Certificate in Computer Science (or related field) with an average GPA of at least 3.0 out of 5.0 or a Diploma at a good standing from recognized institution. 

                                                                             OR

(ii) A qualification of an equivalent standard awarded by recognized professional bodies such as the National Board of Accountants and Auditors and the Business Education Council. 

                                                                             OR

(iii) A Form VI certificate with at least two subsidiaries in the subjects listed in (a) (i) above plus at least two years industrial experience in ICT.

Fees Structure

TShs. 1,000,000 for Tanzanians and US $ 1,200 for non-Tanzanians per year paid in two equal installments to cover tuition fee.

Mode and Time of Application

Application forms can be obtained from the Department of Computer Science located at CoICT-Kijitonyama Campus, University of Dar es Salaam.

All duly completed application forms, accompanied by a bank slip of non-refundable application fee of TShs. 20,000/= for Tanzanians and USD 20 for non-Tanzanians to be paid through NBC bank account 040103000780; account name: UDSM-Computer Science Department should be submitted to:
