Dr Hellen Maziku

Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer at the College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT) at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). I received my PhD and M.Sc. in Computer and Information Systems Engineering in 2016 and 2012 respectively from Tennessee State University (TSU) in the USA. I received a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering and Information Technology from UDSM in 2009. I currently serve as a Gender Focal Point at the College of ICT.

My current research interests are in areas of Moving Target Defense, Cyber Deception, Attack Behavior Modeling,  Software-Defined Security for Critical Infrastructures, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, human-centred Design based Innovation. I am also keen on work related to cyber-physical infrastructure security; infrastructure that I have worked on include; Smart grids and the Cloud. I have worked on research projects funded by several agencies such as SIDA, UNICEF, DHS, Airforce Research Lab, DoE, and NSF. I have published in many recognized conferences and journals such as IEEE’s MILCOM and Elsevier’s COMCOM.

I also engage in innovation activities using the human-centred Design (HCD) approach for greater social impact, with the focus of bridging the digital and gender divide. In this regard, I manage and coordinate all project activities under the Youth for Children (Y4C) innovation hub.
