Professor Kennedy Njenga from the University of Johannesburg visited CoICT on 16th November 2021 to establish and initiate research collaboration with CoICT academics and share his experience in the state of the art techniques research and teaching at the university for university students. Prof Njenga lectures both undergraduate and postgraduate degree and diploma programmes in information systems, information systems security, information systems strategy and business analysis. He supervises honours, masters and doctoral students. Prof Njenga has published in a number of international journals such as the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) and has been invited as co-ordinating editor of the Information systems frontiers journal. He has served as a reviewer for various other journals and conferences within the discipline of information systems such as Information and Management (I&M), International Conference for Information Systems (ICIS), African Journal of Information systems (AJIS), Behaviour and Information Technology (B&IT), to name but a few.
Prof Njenga had a day-long meeting with CoICT Staff in which he presented a topic on The Use of Gaming Technology in Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled Higher Learning Institutions. As an example, Prof Njenga discussed how instructors can use Minecraft for teaching challenging research concepts and students using it for learning through gaming, and at the same time, gaming data are captured using Machine Learning (ML) techniques for training algorithms. He also shared his research on Cyber Security, an important topic to CoICT staff as the college is planning to introduce a Masters Programme in Cyber and Network Security from the next academic year.
