MSc in Information Systems Management (MSc ISM)

Objectives and contents

This is a two-year master's programme developed to provide a technical oriented and scientific postgraduate education to individuals in the information system management discipline. The programme offers students the tools required to compete in the current information-driven marketplace. Specifically, the programme aims to provide students with:

  1. The fundamental skills in analysis and design of various information systems using object oriented methodologies.
  2. The skills needed to make substantive contributions to the use of information systems in corporate decision making.
  3. The ability to implement and manage secure information systems solutions.
  4. The technical and organisational skills necessary to manage IT development projects.
  5. A foundation of technologies needed in order to effectively use information systems in supporting organisations daily operations.
  6. The knowledge in the application of computerised Information Systems, including Web technologies, to run modern technology-driven businesses.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and competence in fundamental areas of information system management.
  2. Apply the knowledge in a choice to use and manage information systems.
  3. Analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain information systems.
  4. Develop strategic information systems and policies.
  5. Manage IT projects and changes in organizations.
  6. To conduct in-depth research, both individually as well as in teams, in a specific information system management area.
  7. Analyze, evaluate and synthesize research and apply theoretical ideas to practical settings.

Graduates of the Master's Programme in Information Systems Management will be able to assume a wide range of roles in private and public organisations such as:

  1. Information Systems Experts
  2. Information Systems Managers
  3. Coordinators/Managers in implementations of ICT-related projects
  4. Informations Systems Analysis
  5. Information Systems developers
  6. Data Analysts
  7. Business Analysts
  8. Directors and managers of ICT departments
  9. Consultants in Implementation of Information Systems

Graduates who are passionate about academia may be employed in research and academic institutions for placement in information systems-related departments. 

To be eligible for admission into this programme, the student should satisfy the general University minimum requirements with the following additional requirements:

Direct Entry Qualification
An undergraduate degree in Information Systems Management or a related field from a recognized institution with at least a lower second class award (GPA of at least 2.7 out of 5).

Equivalent Entry Qualification
Advanced Diploma in relevant and respective field with at least lower second class award OR undergraduate degree with at least a pass in related field PLUS a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant and respective field from a recognized institution certified by TCU with at least an upper second class award (GPA of at least 3.5 out of 5).

For Tanzanian students, the school fee for this programme is TZS 6,412,500/= for 24 months (2 years) by coursework and dissertation and TZS 4,200,000 by thesis. For international students, the fee is USD 8,040 for 24 months (2 years) both by thesis and coursework and dissertation. The fee can be paid in 2 instalments annually or in 4 instalments (per semester).
