Mr Bernard Mussa

About me
I am an academic staff member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). As an Assistant Lecturer in the department, I’m involved with teaching, research and consultancy activities. In particular, I’m teaching Web Programming and Databases Implementation undergraduate courses. My general areas of research interests are Data Science, Big Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Decision Support Systems and Digital Health System Development and Implementations. In particular, within these areas, I’m an active researcher and implementer with extensive knowledge and practical experience in Health Information Systems Development and Implementation, DHIS2 Development and Implementations, Mobile Application Development,  Big Data Analytics and Visualization, Data Mining and Machine Learning.

I have an MSc in Information and Communication Science and Engineering, specializing in Information System Development and Management, from the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Tanzania (2014) and a BSc in Computer Science (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam (2010).

Research and Consultancy Projects
I’m actively involved in the development and implementation of several ICT related researches and consultancy projects namely DHIS2, HRHIS and ARDS projects which are under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, UDSM. Specifically, in the DHIS Project, I work as a Senior Systems Analyst involved in DHIS2-related research, software development, customization, testing and implementation of DHIS2 and related technologies to support the Ministry of Health in Tanzania and other implementing partners in the health sector. Some of the flagship health projects I’m currently working on are related to:

  1. Development, Customization and Implementation of HMIS-DHIS2 system for the Ministry of Health 
  2. Development, Customization and Implementation of National Malaria Dashboard within DHIS2 system
  3. Development and Customization of National Health Web Portal (https://hmisportal.moh.go.tz)
  4. Design and Analysis of DHIS2 Touch Mobile Application
  5. Development of PimaCovid Application for the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Ministry of Health

Within the DHIS Project, I’m also the Project Administrator responsible for the administration and coordination of software projects activities such as project planning, project team management, financial planning and management, activities, project reporting for all projects running under the DHIS2 Project.
